Use plastic jewels to cover the letter/number/shape on the bingo cards. Fairy Tale Literacy Activities Bejeweled Bingo We paint them with gold glitter paint, and add some sequins for “jewels”. We make crowns out of plain construction paper. Spread the mixture onto vanilla wafers, and add a heart-shaped candy (red hots or other candy). Mix two spoonfuls of cream cheese with two spoonfuls of strawberry preserves in a cup. Children make their own tarts with this recipe: Tarts are often made during the medieval ages. See the Gingerbread Unit page for Gingerbread Man activities. The magnetic fishing poles are made with a magnet wand tied to a rhythm stick (or dowel rod) with string. Children catch a fish with magnetic fishing pole, count the dots, and write or stamp the numeral on a fish cutout. Paper fish have 0-10 dots on them, with a paperclip attached, and are tossed onto the “water”. We use a blue shower liner on the floor for the water. We grow our own small beanstalks by planting lima beans in a cup. When all mattresses are gone, the child with the most mattresses on the bed is the “true princess” or prince. The children take turns rolling dice and taking that amount of mattresses (cut from craft foam) to put on the bed. ![]() We use two beds from our dollhouse furniture for this game. (I also use these during my Families Theme, but children enjoy seeing previously used materials get rotated back in to the centers.) Princess on the Pea Children use these to cut out the different sizes of bears to make the bear family. The Three BearsĪdd bear family cookie cutters (made by Wilton) to the play dough area. The children dictate a few sentences to retell the story. We talk about the sequence of the story (which house did the wolf come to first, second, third), and make the houses on the paper in that sequence. We make the houses of the Three Little Pigs by gluing on raffia pieces (straw), toothpicks (sticks), and small rectangles of red foam (bricks). Preparation: Just like Cinderella, your children will lose their shoes in this whole group game. Give the children clues in the form of riddles to help them find the shoe, or else give them hints like "getting warmer" or "getting colder." The child that finds it gets to hide it the next time. ![]() Hide a special slipper or shoe somewhere outside or in the classroom, and let children hunt for it. The knotted ends can be secured to a table top with strong tape so that children can pull the yarn taut as they braid the pieces together. Prepare the yarn beforehand by knotting sets of three strands together at one end. In the spirit of Rapunzel's hair, let children practice braiding using thick yarn. Rapunzel and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Activities Let children pick a number card and place the matching numbers of jewels on the crown. Place glass jewels or glass beads inside a bowl.
